Botswana is a wealthier country compared to other African countries especially Nigeria :( and this is due to three main reasons.
 

DIAMONDS: Back in 1965, Botswana had only 12km of tarred roads and fewer than 10 graduates. However, when diamonds were discovered, the country's fortune changed for the better. Botswana is now the second-largest producer of diamonds in the world, and the revenue generated has been used to transform the country.
 

VERY LOW LEVELS OF CORRUPTION: Corruption in Botswana has been minimal, thanks to the first president, Sir Seretse Khama. He was an honest leader who enforced transparency in government, and his legacy continues to this day. Botswana is now known as one of the least corrupt countries in Africa.
 

SIR SERETSE KHAMA LEADERSHIP SKILLS: President Seretse Khama introduced several policies that were advanced for that time, such as enforcing contracts and allowing market forces to work. These policies were different from the socialist policies that other newly independent African countries were adopting, and they proved to be successful for Botswana.
 

These three factors are the reason why Botswana is thriving today. Although there is room for improvement, Botswana has come a long way since 1965, and it is a great example of how good governance and the right policies can transform a nation.
